Intertwined is my final year project for my studies at Massey University, Wellington.
The project was an exploration of intergenerational connections through the medium of photography. This lead to the creation
of Intertwined. A photographic artist book that serves as both a gift to my family and a celebration of photography and lineage.
It does this by showcasing the work of three generations within my own family, my grandfather, my mother, and myself.
It highlights how our individual experiences and stories are our own, yet also interconnected. Photography is a vessel of which we connect. This project demonstrates how we are influenced by our family and how shared passions can last generations.

180 pages capturing over 80 years of my family’s history, through photographs. The cover is simple, giving us the title, "Intertwined, a generational gift". The bold, vibrant burst of red fabric cover ties to love and emotional connection, while also being eye catching and beautiful.
The red follows through to the threads that hold the book together. The exposed spine stitch binding reveals the book’s inner workings. Much like how the pages themselves offer a glimpse into the heart of my family’s story. This binding choice invites you to look beyond the surface,
just as the photographs and memories within allow you to see into our personal history.

By incorporating these written narratives, the project explores the deep connections between photographs, memory, and identity. In creating this book, I engaged in conversations with
my grandmother and mother to gather stories behind the selected photographs, weaving together memories that reveal the personalities, values, and experiences of each generation. These are authentic stories recounted back to the reader by myself, the narrator of Intertwined.
